On-Site Vibration Investigation and Mitigation

During an on-site inspection of the computer room, it was observed that the pipelines connected to the air-conditioning system were acting as vibration transmission paths, due to vibration issues in the HVAC equipment.

A detailed assessment was conducted on the water pipelines, floor-mounted installations, and suspended air ducts to identify sources of vibration.

The investigation concluded that effective vibration isolation required the implementation of spring vibration isolators, spring hangers, rubber damping pads, flexible rubber hoses, metal hoses, and bellows compensators. These measures help to break the vibration transmission path, ensuring system stability and reducing the impact of equipment vibrations on the surrounding structure.

Step 3: Pipe Support Design and Load Calculation

The total pipe load is determined based on the pipe diameter, length, and quantity. The load at each support point (fulcrum) is then calculated according to the number and distribution of supports.

Once the load on each fulcrum is determined, the channel steel thickness and dimensions for the pipe supports are customized, taking into account an appropriate safety factor to ensure structural reliability.

Step 4: Selection of Vibration Isolators

Based on the load at each fulcrum, suitable vibration isolation mounts are selected.

For example, consider a DN450 pipe with a total weight of 4434 kg, evenly distributed across 4 support points.

  • Each support point requires 1 shock absorber.

  • Considering a dynamic load factor of 1.25, the load on each shock absorber is calculated as:
